Alpert Butler's attorneys have been involved in a number of high-profile matters, and a number of lesser known or private matters, relating to the legal profession. One of the seminal cases on the subject of attorney liability is Packard-Bamberger v. Collier, in which the firm's senior partner, Clark Alpert, represented the prevailing parties. In re Fagan, is an ethics proceeding that is open to the public (and has been highly publicized); in which Mr. Alpert is defending the respondent attorney, who is well known for his successful prosecution of Holocaust cases. Mr. Alpert has also been retained as an expert in a number of legal malpractice and other professional matters.

Alpert Butler receives a substantial number of its cases by way of referral from other attorneys. The firm offers a wide range of services to attorneys and law firms, including ethics representation, counseling, matters of professional responsibility, law firm break-up proceedings (judicial or arbitration), disputes between attorneys over fees or other matters, and attorney-client disputes. The firm's philosophy is that many such matters may best be handled through alternative dispute resolution proceedings such as mediation and arbitration; but the firm will diligently protect your rights in litigation if needed.

The firm also represents attorneys seeking to collect fees owed by their clients.

For attorneys seeking advice at any stage--including avoidance of problems by seeking guidance during the course of a professional relationship, or help for those who may be charged with disciplinary offenses--we offer a complete range of services that run the gamut from confidential advice or investigation of the charged offense to communicating with and negotiating possible resolutions with the appropriate disciplinary committee or ethics board. Should your matter become the subject of a hearing before a judge or tribunal, we stand ready to prepare an appropriate defense on your behalf.

We also represent clients facing disputes with attorneys. When the facts warrant, we handle malpractice or other claims against attorneys; and have done so in a number of prominent matters.

This practice area is headed up by firm founder and senior partner Clark Alpert. In addition to matters involving the practice of law, including service as an expert in matters of professional conduct, Mr. Alpert has nearly thirty years of experience representing private and public entities of all sizes in corporate, financial and employment matters, commercial litigation (including numerous high-profile matters involving patterns of intentional wrongdoing), and a wide variety of other legal matters, as well as appointments by the Court in various roles.
